The oddsmakers in Las Vegas are still not hopping on the train that the Steelers playoff hopes are all that strong, but they coming around to inching closer toward a reality.

One week after Pittsburgh’s best odds to make the playoffs were +1400, the odds dramatically increased for the Steelers after the happenings in Week 17. The fact that they are still alive seems to be a minor miracle, but with the results, the odds have climbed.

The Steelers’ odds currently sit at +350 for a ‘yes’ answer and -500 for a ‘no’ answer according to BetOnline. That is a significant hike up from where they were last week. Now, the Steelers will need plenty to happen to reach the playoffs still, but it looks far likelier.

In order to make the playoffs, the Steelers need the Jets to beat the Dolphins, who will likely start Skylar Thompson at quarterback. Then, the Bills must knock off the New England Patriots. All three games will be played at 1 p.m. alongside each other, so scoreboard-watching should abound on Sunday.

On top of that, Pittsburgh must defeat the Browns. If they lose the game, there is no avenue to the postseason. However, they opened as three-point favorites, meaning that the oddsmakers at least like that prospect of happening.

The Steelers’ playoff chances boosted their way all the way up to 16 percent, the highest it has been since early in the season according to Five Thirty-Eight and their playoff projections algorithm.
