Steelers Practice Report: Russ Hot Start, OT Plan Comes Together

Steelers Practice Report

UNITY TWP., Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers had their 11th training camp practice of 2024 on Tuesday at St. Vincent College, and Alan Saunders of Steelers Now was there to break it all down.

The Steelers were back in pads after and off day on Monday, and they had another run-first practice period, with the defense getting another win over the offense in seven shots.

The big news of the day was the return of quarterback Russell Wilson, who split first-team reps with Justin Fields throughout the day, working in full 11-on-11 team periods for the first time since his calf injury on the first day of training camp.

Elsewhere, Pat Meyer’s promised plan for the offensive line began to come to fruition, as Troy Fautanu got his most extensive work with the first team and Broderick Jones played his most left tackle since the start of training camp on Tuesday.

Center Zach Frazier had his best day of practice, with a pancake on a pull and a violent kick-out block of fellow WVU alum Beanie Bishop.

Elsewhere, reserve running backs Jonathan Ward and LaMical Perine had strong practices in their continued competition for the fourth running back job.

Finally, safeties Nate Meadors and Ryan Watts each had interceptions, with the Texas rookie notching his third in a week.

All that and more in today’s Steelers practice report.
