Steelers Practice Report: With No Russ, Defense Takes Day 1
Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp Practice Report: With no Russell Wilson, defense takes day one.
UNITY TWP., Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers had their first training camp practice of 2024 on Thursday at St. Vincent College, and Alan Saunders of Steelers Now were there to break it all down. Most of the attention was on the offense, where the team lined up just like they did at the end of minicamp, with Dan Moore Jr. at left tackle, Broderick Jones at right tackle, Nate Herbig at center, Russell Wilson at quarterback and Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III at wide receiver.
Wilson took part in walkthrough, but then handed the reins to Justin Fields, as he was held out of practice with a minor calf injury. Fields had just a so-so first day as Steelers quarterback, after finding out he’d be working with the first team at just 6 a.m. on Thursday.
The defense took advantage, with DeShon Elliott recording a sack and a pass breakup, Donte Jackson getting his hands on the ball, and two forced fumbles. All that and more in today’s Pittsburgh Steelers Practice Report.
