PITTSBURGH — In the midst what was already a night that saw Steelers running back Najee Harris reach and surpass 1,000 yards on the ground, the 23-year-old rookie achieved even more history. Harris also broke Pro Football Hall of Famer Franco Harris’ record for most rushing yards in a single season by a rookie in franchise history.

Harris’ record breaking run came in impressive fashion, exploding for 30 yards on a the third quarter run. His 2021-2022 season accomplishments are now as follows: the Steelers rookie record for total yards (previously held by Le’Veon Bell with 860), 1,000 total yards, 1,000 rushing yards and now the franchise rookie record for single season rushing yards.

The Alabama product entered the night with 984 yards as a runner and 422 as a receiver this season. While a season full of benchmarks and records is tough to argue as anything but successful from an individual perspective, Harris has had to endure an up and down season, mostly due to playing with a banged up and inexperienced offensive line. This has resulted in Harris averaging 3.7 yards per carry.
