The Steelers released wide receiver Tyler Vaughns from their practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday.

Vaughns had been with the team since Sept. 7 and had not appeared in any games, while fellow practice squad receivers Steven Sims and Anthony Miller have both been elevated to the active roster.

Vaughns and cornerback , who was also cut on Wednesday, were replaced on the practice squad by punter Drue Chrisman and long snapper Rex Sunahara as the Steelers looked to shore up specialist depth with COVID-19 positive tests going through the locker room.

A rookie from USC, Vaughns originally signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent following the 2021 NFL Draft. He caught 222 passes for 2,810 yards and 20 touchdowns in four seasons at USC.
