Steelers ILB Robert Spillane

The Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Robert Spillane, according to AtoZSports.com.

Spillane and the Raiders have agreed on a two-year deal worth $9 million, $4 million of which is guaranteed.

The 27-year-old had been with the Steelers since 2019, steadily seeing his role grow from the practice squad to a trusted regular on the defense. Spillane made seven starts in 2020 and four in 2021, filling in for injuries.

In 2022, he played in 16 games and started five, earning playing time without the benefit of a starter injury for the first time in his career. Spillane played a career-high 59% of the team’s defensive snaps while also maintaining his status as a special teams regular.

Spillane finished the season with 79 tackles, the most in his career and third on the team, behind only Myles Jack and Minkah Fitzpatrick. He also had four tackles for loss, one sack and four passes defended.

Though his playing time increased, that wasn’t always a positive, as Spillane struggled in coverage and seemed miscast as the team’s Dime linebacker.

The Steelers have a significant opening at linebacker alongside Jack, as Spillane’s co-starter Devin Bush is also a free agent, and so is special teamer and backup Marcus Allen.

Spillane is the second of the Steelers’ unrestricted free agents to agree to sign elsewhere, joining cornerback Cam Sutton, who is heading to the Detroit Lions on a three-year deal.
