Steelers Rookie Camp Report: Jack Sawyer Role, Which Tryouts Will Make It?

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ selection of Jack Sawyer in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft was unexpected, because the team did not have an acute need at the position, with T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig ahead of him on the depth chart.
It came under more fire after the Steelers traded George Pickens this week, opening up a massive hole in the depth chart at wide receiver.
While the decision to draft Sawyer is one thing, what kind of player are the Steelers getting? That’s another, and we started to learn at rookie camp this weekend.
Also, it looks like a couple tryout players could be added to the Steelers’ 90-man roster. A center and a veteran running back might have the inside scoop.
Alan and Brendan Howe break it down.
