Sunday’s matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens has a slew of storylines. In addition to Diontae Johnson returning to Pittsburgh for the first time, Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen will also get his first shot at his former team. It will also be safety DeShon Elliott’s first game against the Ravens as a member of the Steelers.

Elliott was with the Ravens from 2018-2021 before joining the Detroit Lions in 2022 and the Miami Dolphins in 2023. He knows all about the tradition of the Ravens having a stout defense. That hasn’t been the case this year, however, especially in pass defense where Baltimore ranks dead last.

“Defensively, I don’t know what y’all got going over there,” Elliott said on Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey’s Punch Line Podcast. “It has nothing to do with me, but the stat sheet says y’all are number one in run defense. But it says y’all are 32nd in pass defense.”

Last year in Miami, Elliott lost to the Ravens, 56-19. He expects a closer game this time around.

“This will be fun. This will be very fun. I haven’t been able to play against Baltimore the way I wanted to because last year I played for a team that was soft as f***,” Elliott told Humphrey. “There was some guys who were tough, but for like the majority of the team (they were) not mentally tough individuals. So to be on a team with a full team of mentally tough guys against another mentally tough team. AFC North ball. This is going to be fun.”

Humphrey joked that his former teammate is a “full-blown traitor.” Elliott responded, “I wouldn’t say traitor because Eric DeCosta had a chance to sign me back and he chose not to. He chose to sign No. 32 [Marcus Williams].”

Queen had a similar answer as Elliott when speaking with the reporters on Wednesday. Queen said he was upset when he wasn’t offered a contract to return to the Ravens this spring and that he hasn’t talked to John Harbaugh or Eric DeCosta since he left.

Queen said in March after he signed with the Steelers that he wanted to be known not as someone who was a former Raven but as the villain of that rivalry.

“It’s going to be weird, but I want to be that villain. I want to be that guy. I’m looking to do some stuff to them,” Queen said.

To say the least, Sunday should be interesting …
