Steelers Sights and Sounds: First Look at the Returning Cam Sutton
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cam Sutton is back in Pittsburgh and practicing at the team’s OTAs sessions. After being released from the Detroit Lions following an arrest for domestic violence, Sutton is back in Pittsburgh, seemingly as the team’s slot cornerback answer. He is familiar with the team and his surroundings, all of which the Steelers hope will aid him in his return.
Sutton seems poised to fit back into the Steelers’ defense as the slot cornerback. While Josiah Scott and Beanie Bishop have started there as the competition, it has become increasingly clear that the team viewed slot cornerback as a need. However, for those players, there is still a battle to watch since Sutton will likely be suspended for the NFL’s personal conduct policy. If that occurs, there is a roster spot up for grabs among those players.
Sutton, on the other hand, did have a tough time on the field in Detroit. He played exclusively outside after the Steelers used him on the outside, in the slot, and as a dimebacker. Sutton’s return will allow the Steelers to unlock Minkah Fitzpatrick in sub-packages while trusting Joey Porter Jr. and Donte Jackson on the outside. This will be a rotation to watch as the Steelers head into training camp in July.
