PITTSBURGH — Russell Wilson and Justin Fields have been on a Pittsburgh Steelers practice field for the last three weeks, working to build chemistry with other wide receivers. That includes guys like George Pickens, Calvin Austin III, Pat Freiermuth, and others. Wilson and Fields are expected to have a battle at quarterback during training camp but to set the stage for that and any growth in the offense, the team needs to work the chemistry in for all the pass catchers and the quarterbacks.

Pittsburgh did just that on Thursday. Wilson and Fields threw to an array of targets across multiple routes. In addition, they worked on their footwork to hone in on timing and efficiency, all of which are critical to any offense, especially Arthur Smith’s offense.

The Steelers expect Wilson and Fields to be the driving forces behind a much-improved offense after they moved on from all three quarterbacks and fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada. In addition, Pickens must step up into a massive role if the Steelers will work as a passing attack. After trading Diontae Johnson, they have yet to find someone new that will allow attention to be taken off him, though the rookie, Roman Wilson, profiles to have a significant role.
