PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have undergone a transformation at the linebacker position over the last two years, with free agent signing Patrick Queen representing the crown jewel of the team’s recent additions. Queen, veterans Elandon Roberts and Cole Holcomb and youngsters Mark Robinson and Payton Wilson could represent one of the deepest position groups on the Steelers squad, once Holcomb returns from his knee injury.

Queen came over the from the Baltimore Ravens in a high-priced free-agent deal, a rarity in the rivalry between the teams, and No. 6 switching from purple and black to black and gold is sure to make waves in Baltimore. In Pittsburgh, the rare combination of size and speed that made Queen an All-Pro has fans thinking about the potential of the defense finally finding a successor to Ryan Shazier at the linebacker position.

On the practice field at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Wednesday, inside linebackers coach Aaron Curry was working with Queen, Roberts, Robinson, Wilson, Tyler Murray and Jacoby Windmon on their run-fitting technique, demonstrating how players can set up a blocker to trick them into thinking their own running back is going a different direction than he actually is.
