Steelers Sights & Sounds: Preston Smith Shows Off Coverage Skills
Pittsburgh Steelers Sights & Sounds: Preston Smith and the rest of the Steelers linebackers worked on their hands at practice on Friday.
PITTSBURGH — New Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Preston Smith was quick to point out that he is an outside linebacker, not just any edge rusher. Being able to change from a 4-3 defense in Green Bay to a 3-4 with the Steelers was one of the big reasons he asked for a trade, and he knows that dropping into coverage is an occasional part of that job description.
In his introductory press conference, the 31-year-old said he has five career interceptions, and he’s looking forward to more now that he’s back to his most comfortable role.
Smith and the rest of the Steelers linebackers worked on their hands before practice on Friday, with Smith’s former Washington teammate, Steelers player development coach Darrel Young, making the passes.
