The Pittsburgh Steelers signed free agent cornerback Jermaine Ponder and waived cornerback Derrek Thomas, the team announced Tuesday.

The move comes after Thomas, who signed with the Steelers less than a week ago, was waived due to injury.
Ponder, who will be taking Thomas’ roster spot, spent some time with the Cleveland Browns during the spring before signing with the Steelers. Ponder was an UDFA out of St. Francis University, and managed to set the school record for passes defended (16) his senior season, which was good enough to earn him top five honors in the FCS at the category. Ponder recorded 25 tackles as well.
