Steelers Sign South Alabama Tight End to Record Deal
The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing undrafted free agent tight end DJ Thomas-Jones formerly of South Alabama.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun signing their crop of undrafted free agents following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, they are signing former South Alabama tight end DJ Thomas-Jones.
Thomas-Jones’ deal includes a $30,000 signing bonus, which is the largest the Steelers have ever given to a non-quarterback undrafted free agent.
The 6-foot-2, 256-pound tight end has spent the past three years at South Alabama, where he recorded 73 catches for 653 yards and 12 touchdowns. His best season came in 2023, when he had a career-high 27 catches for 235 yards and five touchdowns.
Before transferring to South Alabama in 2022, Thomas-Jones spent one year at Ole Miss. There he saw action in six games and recorded just one catch for six yards. He also played some special teams.
Thomas-Jones joins tight ends Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Connor Heyward and Donald Parham Jr., who just signed with Pittsburgh this offseason.
He was rated as a four-star prospect coming out of high school and ranked as the No. 13 tight end nationally and No. 34 tight end in the nation by ESPN.
Thomas-Jones was a journalism major at South Alabama.
