Steelers Sign Tryout DL Trevon Mason After Rookie Minicamp

The Steelers have agreed to sign rookie minicamp tryout defensive lineman Trevon Mason to a contract, he posted on Twitter.

An Arizona alum, Mason came onto the Steelers’ radar after he was spotted at the New York Jets’ rookie minicamp last weekend.

In 2021, Mason was named an All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention after he picked up 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks for the Wildcats. He led the Wildcats with nine quarterback hurries and registered four pass deflections at the line of scrimmage.

Mason started out at Navarro Community College in 2018 before transferring up and joining Arizona in 2019. He started and played all three years with Arizona, racking up 29 games played with 25 starts to go with that. He now joins an extremely deep defensive line group that features great depth and some youth, including third-round pick DeMarvin Leal.

It remains to be seen how the Steelers will work out all the snap logging they will have to do to satisfy everyone on the roster, but Mason is another name to add to the ring of guys who are trying to make a push at that deep position on the team.

Mason is the second player the Steelers have signed after a rookie minicamp tryout joining South Carolina cornerback Carlins Platel. The Steelers will now make two corresponding moves to fit both onto the 90-man roster.
