The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced a four-year deal for sixth-round pick Ulysees Gilbert.

Gilbert spent his college days in Akron as a linebacker, racking up 357 total tackles in four seasons. Gilbert also tallied 8.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumbles recovered as well.

Steelers linebacker coach Jerry Olsavsky had high remakes for Gilbert, a player he believes can play sideline to sideline and can be used almost anywhere, especially on special teams.

“In today’s game a lot of inside linebackers have to be special teamers. That is their first job. They are going to make the team on special teams” Olsavsky told Steelers.com. “If you like to run around and hit people, you know you’re good for us.”

Gilbert was the of three 6th round picks to sign with the Steelers, leaving only two players from the 2019 draft class unsigned: Devin Bush and Justin Layne.
