Steelers Starting WR Leaves Game with Eye Injury
Pittsburgh Steelers starting wide receiver Van Jefferson left Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with an eye injury.
PITTSBURGH โ The Pittsburgh Steelers dressed just four wide receivers for Sundayโs game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and one of them left the game early with an injury, as Van Jefferson came out of the game in the second quarter with an eye injury.
Jefferson was injured as the Steelers were driving toward their first touchdown of the game in the second quarter. Team trainers were working on Jefferson along the sideline as Justin Fields scrambled into the end zone to tie the game with 10:17 to play in the second quarter.
He was replaced on the field by Scotty Miller, who dressed as the Steelers only backup to starters Jefferson, George Pickens and Calvin Austin III. Special teamer Ben Skowronek will miss at least the next four weeks with a shoulder injury.
Rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson was a healthy scratch for the game despite finally recovering from his training camp ankle injury enough to be a full participant in the teamโs final two practice sessions of the week on Thursday and Friday.ย
Jefferson was the second in-game injury for the Steelers, following an early hamstring injury for backup cornerback Cory Trice.
