Steelers Trade Back, Draft Massive Defensive Tackle
The Pittsburgh Steelers are selecting Iowa defensive tackle Yahya Black with the No. 164 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers executed a trade down with the Kansas City Chiefs, sending pick No. 156 in exchange for pick Nos. 164 and 226 in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Steelers then used pick No. 164 to select Iowa defensive tackle Yahya Black.
It doesn’t come as a surprise since the Steelers entered the draft with just six picks, having traded away their second-round selection for wide receiver DK Metcalf.
It was the third-to-last in total draft value for the 2025 NFL Draft, according to research by Sharp Football, and the second-worst standing since Sharp started tracking the metric in 1999.Â
Pittsburgh now picks up an additional seventh-round pick while still adding yet another piece to its defensive line. The team already drafted Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon with its first-round pick (No. 21).
Black stands at a massive, 6-foot-6, 336 pounds and likely projects to be a nose tackle for the Steelers. Over the past five years at Iowa, he has recorded 117 tackles (51 solo), 5.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and nine passes defensed.

Black now joins his former Iowa teammates, running back Kaleb Johnson, who the Steelers drafted in the third round (No. 83), and defensive lineman Logan Lee, who was selected in the sixth round in 2024.
The 23-year-old ran a 5.39-second 40-yard dash and recorded a 25.5-inch vertical jump and 8-foot-5 broad jump at the NFL Scouting Combine.
