Steelers Tryout Offensive Lineman Signs in CFL
Offensive lineman Ilm Manning has signed in the CFL after trying out for the Pittsburgh Steelers at their rookie minicamp earlier this month.
Manning was not offered a contract by the Steelers at the end of rookie camp, with the team instead signing rookie tryout Gareth Warren. On Wednesday, Manning signed with the BC Lions of the CFL, according to that league’s transactions page.
Manning, 25, is a 6-foot-2, 294-pound offensive lineman who is in his third pro season after going undrafted out of Hawaii in 2023.
Manning originally joined the San Francisco 49ers as a UDFA in 2023, but was waived during the final roster cuts on Aug. 29. He was claimed by the Arizona Cardinals, but was waived again four days later, without appearing in a game. Manning re-signed in San Francisco, spending three months on the 49ers practice squad.
He was signed off the 49ers practice squad by the Carolina Panthers on Dec. 28, and spent the rest of the regular season on the Carolina active roster, again without playing in a game.
In 2024, Manning signed with the Seattle Seahawks but was waived coming out of training camp. He signed with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL, but was released before the start of the season.
Manning played left tackle over his five seasons at Hawaii, but played both tackle and guard in his two NFL preseason stints. The Steelers worked him at guard during rookie camp.
The 2025 CFL season will start on June 5, with the 112th edition of the Grey Cup in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Nov. 16.
