Steelers Waive WR Anthony Johnson from IR with Injury Settlement

The Steelers waived wide receiver Anthony Johnson from their injured reserve with an injury settlement, according to the NFL transaction page for Friday.

The Steelers originally waived Johnson with an injury designation on Aug. 27. He cleared waivers and reverted to the team’s injured reserve on Aug. 28.

Johnson originally injured his knee in practice on Aug. 24 and was seen afterward on the Steelers sideline in crutches.

A second-year pro out of Buffalo, Johnson spent 2019 training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the regular season on the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad. He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Steelers on Jan. 8.

The Steelers must make 27 cuts to get to the 53-man roster limit by 4 p.m. on Saturday. Johnson, because he was on the injured reserve list and not part of the 80-man roster, does not count toward that total.
