Steelers Work Out Ex-Pitt WR Taysir Mack

The Pittsburgh Steelers worked out former Pitt wide receiver Taysir Mack on Tuesday, according to a report by Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network.

Mack, 24, spent four seasons playing with Steelers starting quarterback Kenny Pickett at the University of Pittsburgh.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Brooklyn, New York native caught 139 passes for 2,059 yards and nine touchdowns in four seasons as one of Pickett’s top targets. His best statistical season was in 2019, when he caught 63 passes for 736 yards and three touchdowns. He was limited by injury in both 2020 and 2021. 

Mack participated in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl after the end of his senior season. At Pitt’s pro day, he ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash.

Mack went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft and caught on this summer with the San Francisco 49ers. He was released by San Francisco on Aug. 5, before the start of the preseason.

The Steelers have six receivers on their active roster and one more, rookie Calvin Austin III practicing while preparing to return from injured reserve. Cody White is in his third season on the Steelers’ practice squad. So it’s not clear where they would use Mack at this juncture, but there’s no denying his connection with the Steelers new starting quarterback.
