Steelers WR George Pickens Receives Surprising On-The-Field Award
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens has been awarded for his play in the team's wild-card loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens was penalized several times for his play during the 2024 season, but he’s been awarded for exactly that in the team’s wild-card loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Pickens has been named the 2024 Week 19 NFL Way to Play award-winner.
According to the NFL’s website, the NFL Way to Play award is given to one player every week of the NFL regular season and playoffs “for their excellent playing technique.”
It’s not the type of award many would have likely predicted Pickens to receive following yet another loud season, but the recognition is for his impressive touchdown catch against the Ravens.
Trailing Baltimore 28-7 with just 3:32 left in the third quarter, Pickens was able to catch the ball in between two defenders to score a 36-yard touchdown.
The Steelers still lost the game 28-14, but it was exactly the spark their offense was searching for nearing the fourth quarter.
In honor of Pickens’ play, the NFL Foundation will give a $5,000 equipment grant to a youth or high school program of his choice through USA Football.
There haven’t been a lot of positive takeaways from Pickens’ third season in the league, but he seems to have ended the year in a positive way with the ability to help some of those in the community.
Still, his future with the Steelers is up in the air as they enter an offseason that will likely have a lot of change.
Head coach Mike Tomlin was noncommittal to a potential extension for Pickens, who’s heading into the final year of his rookie deal in 2025.

That could mean the team will look to trade him this offseason. If that’s true and Pickens has played his last down for the Steelers, at least he ended it on a good note.
