Texans GM Nick Caserio: Things ‘Day-to-Day’ with QB Deshaun Watson

INDIANAPOLIS — When it comes to the Steelers’ quarterback situation, everybody has been linked to them one way or another. Those bounds do not make an exception for Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson, who requested a trade out of Houston in the 2021 offseason, is embroiled in a lawsuit from 22 different victims alleging sexual misconduct.

On February 21, Watson was deposed in nine of the 22 cases against him by a Harris County judge in Texas. That means he can officially be asked to face questions under oath in those situations. With the recent court ruling against him, Texans general manager Nick Caserio was questioned about Watson’s standing with the team on Tuesday.

“That situation is day-to-day in terms of handling that,” Caserio said. “So, once the information becomes more relevant or prevalent we will handle that accordingly. My philosophy from the beginning has always been doing the right thing by the Houston Texans organization. We are going to continue to do that here moving forward.”

The Watson situation is in the headlines seemingly every week. It is easy for that to cause a strain on the organization and its relations with it. However, for Caserio and his staff, he notes that they think about it only because it is in the headlines. Moreover, they rarely discussed it at all during the season.

“The only strain is the discussion you guys had,” Caserio said. “You guys spent more time on it than we have. I think once the season started, our focus was on our team and preparing on a week-to-week basis. We tried to control the things we can control.”

Watson will have to work through the legal proceedings until anything can happen in a trade or his return to the field. It seems that is starting to heat up, but the proceedings will take time. Watson is likely to be in the same position he has been for the past year for a considerable amount of time moving forward.
