Three Former Steelers Players Taken in USFL Supplemental Draft

Three more former Pittsburgh Steelers were drafted into the USFL in the league’s supplemental draft on Thursday night.

The supplemental draft was 10 rounds after the league’s 36-round initial affair in February, and for players that added their names to the draft pool later in the process. Unlike the initial draft, teams were free to choose from any position in any round.

Former Steelers offensive lineman Jarron Jones went to the Tampa Bay Bandits with the seventh pick in the first round. Jones signed with the Steelers after a stint in the XFL in 2020 and spent that season on the team’s practice squad. He was released in July 2021 amid a domestic violence charge that Jones eventually plead guilty to in October.

With the third pick in the third round, the Michigan Panthers selected former Steelers tight end Marcus Baugh. An Ohio State alum, Baugh spent 2021 training camp with the Steelers after stints with the Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers, Washington Football Team and San Diego Fleet of the AAF in 2019.

In the ninth round, the Houston Gamblers took quarterback-turned-wide receiver Tyler Palka. A Gannon grad, Palka was with the Steelers for rookie minicamp in 2018 and has spent time in the Canadian Football League, Arena Football League, XFL and The Spring League since.

Baugh, Jones and Palka join the 11 former Steelers that were taken in the league’s initial draft in February.

All eight teams will be playing their 2022 regular season games in Birmingham, Alabama. The teams will report there for training camp later this month and the 2022 season will start on April 16.
