Cody Mauch Senior Bowl

The Steelers will host versatile North Dakota State offensive lineman Cody Mauch for a Top-3o pre-draft visit on Friday, joe Rutter of the Tribune-Review reports.

Mauch played tackle with the Bison, but repped at both guard spots and center at the Senior Bowl. All teams seem to be enthralled by his abilities to play at all different spots. That versatility is shooting Mauch up boards as a guy who can play early on in his career and at multiple different spots.

Cody Mauch started 39 consecutive games over the final three years of his collegiate career. That streak landed him in Mobile at the Senior Bowl and allowed him to gain plenty of hype already. 37 of those starts were at left tackle while two were at right tackle. Through his college days and the Senior Bowl, Mauch has logged snaps and reps on tape at all five positions on the offensive line, and jumbo tight end as well.

Mauch just recently started working at center on his own time, but the tackle is likely to become a guard at the next level. If he can turn center into something he works with as well, Mauch has the potential to have the ever-elusive all-five position versatility. For him, that’s a massive stock boost. Some teams seem to have confidence that Mauch can play there at center. With good athleticism, he is a good player.

This continues the Steelers’ string of guys who are likely to play on the interior, including John Michael Schmitz, O’Cyrus Torrence, and Steve Avila. What are they looking at here and are they looking for Mauch to be a center-capable player? With no backup center on the roster that they trust without shaking up the offensive line, Mauch could be a dark-horse candidate. He is likely to be a day-two pick.
