Watch: Mason Rudolph Talks Josh Dobbs Trade, Backup Role

PITTSBURGH — When the Steelers traded third-string quarterback Josh Dobbs to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday for a 2020 fifth-round pick, it signaled a final end to the battle between Dobbs and Mason Rudolph for the Steelers’ backup quarterback job that began all the way back in the spring.

Rudolph won that battle with a superior performance during training camp, but head coach Mike Tomlin cautioned last Tuesday that Rudolph would have to continue to earn that job.

Days later, there are only two quarterback on the roster, meaning that he not only has secured the job, but that he’ll get additional practice reps.
