ORLANDO, Fla. — Pittsburgh Steelers defensive captain was selected to the AFC Pro Bowl team for the seventh time in his NFL career. Of course, during Sunday’s Pro Bowl itself, Heyward didn’t have much to do.

The new format for the Pro Bowl Games sees players participate in a skills challenge on Thursday night and another one in between the quarters of a flag football game on the traditional Pro Bowl Sunday.

The flag football game is 7-on-7, so Heyward and the rest of the team’s linemen are relegated to being spectators of varying levels of interest.

In Heyward’s case, that appeared to be just about none, as TV cameras caught the Pittsburgh defensive stalwart playing cards on the AFC bench with Tennessee Titans offensive linemen Jeffrey Simmons.

Heyward also posted on X during the game, saying the the league needs to bring back a real 11-on-11 Pro Bowl.

Heyward and Steelers offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo will get their moment in the spotlight on Sunday. They’re both on the AFC tug of war team, in one of the final skills competitions of the weekend.
