Where do Steelers Rank Among NFL Free Agents?

With NFL free agency set to begin in just about a month, CBS Sports has released their rankings of the 100 best free agent on the market this off-season.

Three Steelers made the list, with outside linebacker Bud Dupree clocking with the highest ranking at #20. Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave came in just a few spots back at #26. Safety Sean Davis was ranked #97.

Dupree and Hargrave will be two of the hottest commodities on the market when free agency starts, while Davis’ value is more unclear.

Dupree is coming off the best season of his five-year stint in Pittsburgh, posting career-highs in sacks (11.5) and tackles-for-loss (16). The Steelers will likely franchise tag him prior to free agency.

Hargrave has been a dominant force inside for the Steelers over the last two season. In that two year span, he has a combined 10.5 sacks and 13 TFLs. Hargrave is expected to get a big pay day, but that likely will not come in Pittsburgh due to their arduous salary cap situation.

Davis was a full-time starter at safety for two seasons with the Steelers before seeing his role diminish in 2019 due to a shoulder injury and the acquisition of Minkah Fitzpatrick. Davis has five interceptions and 20 passes defended over 48 career games. He has the skill set to be a starting safety in the league, but the question is where considering he will not get the opportunity with the Steelers.

Clubs can begin negotiating with free agents on March 16th, while free agency begins in earnest on March 18th at 4:00 PM with the start of the new league year.
