Will Rule Change Fix NFL Overtime? | Steelers Morning Rush

Steelers

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s whether the update rule changes for the 2025 season will fix NFL overtime — and a crazy idea about just how to fix them.

The NFL is moving from the previous overtime rule to one that more closely mimics the postseason overtime, meaning that both teams are guaranteed a possession, even if the team that gets the ball on offense first scores a touchdown.

But in a 10-minute period, that could make for some funky strategy as teams with the ball first try to maximize the amount of time they spend on offense before they score.

What about a completely different idea from a member of the audience? Alan breaks it down.
