WPXI to Air Steelers Thursday Night Football Game vs. Browns

WPXI will air the Thursday Night Football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns in the Pittsburgh area.

NFL Black Friday Amazon Prime Steelers Thursday Night Football Wild Card Streaming Browns

The Pittsburgh Steelers game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 11 will be broadcast locally by WPXI. The Steelers and Browns are playing on Thursday Night Football on Nov. 19, and the national broadcast will be through Amazon Prime Video.

The NFL’s “Thursday Night Football” package switched exclusively to streaming video provider Amazon for 2022 as part of a $1 billion per year rights package that runs through 2033. The games can only be accessed by subscribers to Amazon Prime Video nationally.

As part of that deal, Amazon must select a local broadcast partner for each team so that local fans can watch the game free and over the air. WPXI won the bidding to air the Steelers’ Week 11 game against the Browns. WPXI will also have locally produced pre- and post-game coverage.

Kickoff on Thursday night is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. from Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland. Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit will have the call of the game.

Next Thursday’s game will be the first appearances on Thursday Night Football for the Steelers this season. NFL rules previously prevented teams from being forced to play multiple games on a short-week schedule, but that was changed in 2023 to allow it to happen twice in a season. It’s possible the Steelers could be flexed into another Thursday Night Football game later this season, though they are running out of games that can be flexed.

The Steelers are already playing locked-in standalone games on Dec. 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Dec. 21 against the Baltimore Ravens and on Dec. 25 against the Kansas City Chiefs. CBS would have the right of first refusal for the second Steelers-Browns game on Dec. 8, and there is no Thursday Night Football game in Week 18.
