Steelers Take Oklahoma State OT Teven Jenkins in Latest NFL.com Mock Draft
The Steelers keep getting linked to Oklahoma State tackle Teven Jenkins in prominent mock drafts, and that trend continued on Tuesday, as Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com predicted the big Cowboys tackle will go the Steelers in his latest mock draft.
Jenkins is 6-foot-6, 317 pounds and plays with a mean streak, describing himself as a “tough, physical, nasty motherfucker” at his pro day.
That alone should fit with what the Steelers need on the offensive line, and their current and future needs there have made tackle a popular option for predicting what Kevin Colbert and company will do with the No. 24 overall pick in the first round.
Jeremiah joins Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN, Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus and Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports as prominent draft prognosticators to link the Steelers and Jenkins.
“The Steelers would have their choice of the top running backs here, but I think upgrading the offensive line will be the first order of business,” Jeremiah wrote.
Jenkins is not considered to be in the top group of what is a deep class of tackles in the 2021 NFL Draft, with Oregon’s Penei Sewell, Northwestern’s Rashawn Slater, Virginia Tech’s Christian Darrisaw and USC’s Alijah Vera-Tucker likely to be off the board when the Steelers pick.
But Jenkins’ size, strength and experience as both a quality run- and pass-blocker makes him an ideal fit for a team like the Steelers, and he likely won’t be around when they pick in the second round.
“I would be shocked if he’s there in the second round now,” Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy said. “He’s just scratched the surface for what he can do.”
