Report: Steelers Release TE/LS Trevor Wood

Wood, The Steelers have released Trevor Wood, according to a report by Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Wood, 23, a 6-foot-6 tight end and long snapper, signed with the Steelers this spring as an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M. He played in all four of the Steelers preseason games, without recording any statistics.

A Scottsdale, Arizona native, Wood originally attended Arizona before moving to the Aggies as a graduate transfer in 2018.

Wood spent most of training camp fourth or lower on the Steelers’ tight end depth chart, despite injuries to both Zach Gentry and Christian Scotland-Williamson. He was also never able to unseat returning starter Kameron Canaday at long snapper, with the Steelers even brining in more competition for that spot later in training camp.

Wood is the first player to be released by the team after the end of training camp. The Steelers’ roster now stands at 90 players. They must be down to 53 before 4 p.m. Saturday.
