Steelers Daily Links: Blount Snubbed, Current WR Says AB GOAT
Former Steelers cornerback and Hall of Famer Mel Blount was somehow left off a Sportcenter graphic of the best cornerbacks in NFL history. Blount won four Super Bowls with the Steelers in the 1970s and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1975, a season in which he led the league in interceptions with 11. Blount was so dominant that the league implemented a rule in his name. To open up the passing game, the league prohibited the contact between defensive backs and receivers after five yards from the line of scrimmage. From its inception in 1978, that rule has been known in history as the “Mel Blount Rule.”

On Aug. 1, 2015, Boykin was traded by the Philadelphia Eagles to the Steelers in exchange for a conditional 2016 5th-round pick. Boykin never panned out with the Steelers, however, lasting only one season in Pittsburgh. Boykin signed with the Carolina Panthers following the 2015 season but was released two months later. He had short stints with the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens as well, but never played in a game.
