PITTSBURGH —It’s been a brand-new offensive install for the Pittsburgh Steelers this spring under new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and so that means the three weeks of OTAs and three days of minicamp haven’t always gone smoothly for the Steelers players wearing white. Not only has there been a lot of new scheme to absorb, new position coaches at wide receiver and quarterback have implemented some changes to the practice protocol.

Teams are tightly restricted by how much practice time they can have on any given day, and it’s a delicate balance to try to maximize that time, without going so fast that players can’t absorb coaching. By the final practice of the spring session on Thursday, the Steelers offense looked like it had been running this plan for years, executing running backs coach Eddie Faulkner’s chaotic ball control drills with ease and generally closing minicamp on a high note.
