PITTSBURGH — Several Pittsburgh Steelers players made progress in returning from injury during the team’s practice on Monday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, including running back Jaylen Warren, while another reported good news on his injury front.

Running back Jaylen Warren worked at practice for the first time since he suffered a hamstring injury in the second preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. Warren said it’s a minor hamstring strain, and he expects to play in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 8.

Warren said that he had a more-severe hamstring sprain in his rookie season, and he only missed one week. With two weeks separating his injury and the opener, he’s confident in his ability to suit up.

He said he’s not sure if he was also return kicks. Warren started the offseason as the first-team kickoff returner alongside Cordarrelle Patterson.

Wide receiver Roman Wilson prepped for practice with his teammates for the first time on Monday after doing solo work last week. He’s still not practicing, but said he felt good afterward. A Week 1 return does not seem to have been ruled out for the rookie wide receiver.

Cornerbacks Joey Porter Jr. and Cory Trice Jr. did not practice, but Trice said that he just has some tightness in his groin and that he’s going to take it easy this week. He still expects to play in the season opener against the Falcons. Darius Rush confirmed that he worked with the first team alongside Donte Jackson with both Porter and Trice out. Porter has an undisclosed injury.

Outside linebacker Kyron Johnson (undisclosed), who was injured against the Detroit Lions, and inside linebacker Tyler Matakevich (left ankle), who was banged up against the Buffalo Bills, were also both at practice. Rookie defensive lineman Logan Lee (undisclosed) was not dressed.
