Back from Injury, Former Steelers LB Signs with Broncos
Now back from his Achilles injury, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander has signed with the Denver Broncos.
The Denver Broncos have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Alexander will join the Broncos practice squad, a little under 10 months after he suffered a major injury with the Steelers last season.
Alexander suffered a torn Achilles during the team’s Week 10 game against the Green Bay Packers last November. He was not cleared to even begin to work out in the spring, and the Steelers let his contract expire in March.
On April 9, Alexander resumed training and by May he was running close to full speed on his Achilles, but he was unable to find an opportunity until now.
Second-year Broncos linebacker Drew Sanders suffered a torn Achilles of his own this spring. Alex Singleton has been starting at one linebacker spot, but the Broncos have been infrequently using a second, preferring a 3-3-5 alignment in their Nickel package without Sanders available.
Alexander was excellent when healthy with the Steelers last year. In nine games, he made 41 tackles, five tackles for loss, had two quarterback hits, one sack, one forced fumble, one pass defended and one interception.
But injuries have been a repeated concern for him. Alexanders has played just two full seasons over the course of his nine-year NFL career.
The Steelers moved on in a big way this spring, signing former Baltimore Ravens All-Pro Patrick Queen as a free agent and then drafting NC State’s Payton Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft to go along with returners Elandon Roberts, Cole Holcomb and Mark Robinson.
