Steelers Get Timeframe for Zach Frazier Injury Return
The Pittsburgh Steelers got a timeframe for the return of center Zach Frazier from his injury.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have a timeframe for getting promising rookie center Zach Frazier back to action.
Frazier suffered a left ankle injury in Sunday’s 32-13 Steelers win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Head coach Mike Tomlin already ruled out Frazier for this Sunday’s game against the New York Jets on Tuesday, calling the second-round rookie out of West Virginia “week to week.”
Wednesday, Frazier had with his ankle in a boot before and after Steelers practice on Wednesday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. He was getting around with his left leg on a small cart, not putting any weight on the injured ankle.
Frazier is reportedly expected to miss both this week’s game and next week’s Monday Night Football showdown with the New York Giants. The Steelers bye week is the following week, and Frazier should be expected to return for the team’s Week 9 trip to visit the Washington Commanders.
Ryan McCollum, who replaced Frazier on Sunday, is expected to start against the Jets and the Giants.
“I’ve seen a high intensity guy who’s a heck of a communicator, who’s mature beyond his years, and I think that’s why we’re all comfortable continuing to operate the way that we operated a week ago, and I think that’s why we’re excited about the opportunity that it is for him,” Tomlin said on Tuesday. “There’s always two sides to the injury coin, and I just always try to make a point to our team regarding it.”
