Steelers Re-Sign QB Devlin Hodges to Practice Squad

Duck is back.

Steelers quarterback Devlin Hodges cleared NFL waivers and was re-signed to the practice squad, the team announced on Monday.

Hodges, the rookie free agent whose early success and unassuming personality made him a cultural phenomenal in 2019, will still be able to provide quarterback depth for the Steelers in 2020, even after the team claimed former backup Josh Dobbs on waivers on Sunday.

Hodges joined the Steelers as a rookie tryout out of FCS Sanford last season and a strong preseason performance led the team to trade Dobbs to Jacksonville.

Hodges was then promoted from the training camp to the active roster, and after injuries to Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph, ended up playing in eight games.

In those games, Hodges completed 100 of 160 for 1,063 yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions. The Steelers went 4-4 with Hodges as a starter.

With the addition of Hodges and Wendell Smallwood on Monday, the Steelers’ practice squad is now at the 16-man maximum entering the 2020 season.
