‘Absolutely’: Ahkello Witherspoon Hopes to Return Against Dolphins
Ahkello Witherspoon is hoping to get back on the football field Sunday. After missing the last three games with a strained hamstring he suffered against the Cleveland Browns, Witherspoon was a limited participant for the first time since the injury on Wednesday.
Witherspoon is hoping to get back onto the field against Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and the Miami Dolphins. Those are not the easiest assignments for anyone, but Witherspoon is the fastest cornerback on the Steelers at this juncture. He is working towards that return, though nothing is certain as of yet.
“Absolutely, I want to play on Sunday,” Witherspoon said. “Listen, I’m just working towards it.”
Witherspoon got his first opportunity to simply feel out how the hamstring was doing on Wednesday. He will not fully ramp up to anything until he can go at a high level. That is the key with Witherspoon, as the Steelers plan to string him along surely but slowly.
“We’re just slow progressing right now,” Witherspoon said. “Let’s see how my body responds.”
It is not a confirmation that Ahkello Witherspoon will end up going out and playing, but it is good news for a banged-up Steelers secondary. Levi Wallace practiced in full on Wednesday, while Minkah Fitzpatrick and Cam Sutton were limited. With Damonate Kazee’s return imminent as well, it appears that the Steelers’ secondary is going to be healthy very soon.
