All-Pro Chiefs DT Chris Jones Won’t Play vs. Steelers
Pro Bowl Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle is not expected to play in his team’s Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 25, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Jones suffered a calf injury in Kansas City’s 27-19 win over the Houston Texans on Saturday, and did not return to that contest. He did not practice on Monday, but was limited on Tuesday, leading to a questionable designation for the Wednesday game. Despite that, he is not expected to suit up in Pittsburgh.
A combination of Mike Pennel, Derrick Nnadi, Charles Omenihu and Felix Anudike-Uzomah will likely replace the versatile Jones. Jones lines up all over the Kansas City defensive line, from the edge to nose tackle, and is one of the best defensive lineman in the league.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound, five-time Pro Bowler has five sacks, 37 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits and one forced fumble this season.
There has been no word reported on the status of the other questionable Kansas City player for Wednesday’s game. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor remains questionable as we approach game time. The Steelers and the Chiefs must release their inactive lists 90 minutes before kickoff, or at 11:30 a.m.
