Another 49ers Wide Receiver Could be on the Move
The Pittsburgh Steelers could make a move for the 49ers' Jauan Jennings, who is also the lowkey member of the 49ers group.
The Steelers are in the market for a wide receiver to boost this group next season. They must help Russell Wilson out after trading Diontae Johnson, as George Pickens is the only guaranteed player in the rotation at wide receiver for now. With even more questions surrounding that positon after the trade, the team might look for a veteran solution.
And there might be a 49ers receiver that no one is talking about. That would be 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who has played as one of the best-blocking receivers in the NFL. As a power slot receiver, Jennings would slot right in where the team is weak right now and could add a big boost to the run game.
While Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel are at the center of trade talks, Adam Schefter hinted following the 49ers’ selection of Ricky Pearsall that they are hearing offers on not only Samuel and Aiyuk but also Jennings, stating that all three receivers were garnering interest.
Jennings, 27, is not flashy in the stats, but when he gets targeted, he makes the most of his opportunities. The Steelers need someone like Jennings, who can add to the run game in unique ways that really could pop it. Pittsburgh will add a receiver, maybe two, and Jennings fits their identity perfectly. If they do not want to break the bank on someone in post-draft free agency, look for Pittsburgh to add a guy like Jennings.
More than that, Jennings might need an extension to help lower his cap hit, and he has not yet signed his restricted free-agent tender. Perhaps Jennings is a sleeper fit for the Steelers, and he could be the perfect player that the team would want for Arthur Smith’s scheme. The rumors continue, but Jennings is a name to watch in all of this.
