PITTSBURGH — Patrick Mahomes dinked and Travis Kelce dunked on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The latter set Kansas City’s record for touchdown receptions with his 12-yard fourth-quarter touchdown grab that closed the scoring in the Chiefs’ 29-10 win on Wednesday. He celebrated the occasion by jumping up and slamming the ball over the goalpost’s crossbar afterward.

Kelce totaled eight catches for 84 yards and that score during the victory, garnering congratulations from former Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez, who he passed up on the team’s touchdown catches list. Kelce seemed to always be open when Mahomes most needed him to be. Not that it was much of a surprise.

“You know, some of the instances that he was open, we were in zone defense,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. “You give credit to them and Mahomes in terms of diagonals and coverages. We were spinning the dial. We were playing some man, we were playing some zone, we were pressuring some. Most of the instances that he (Kelce) caught the ball — which is their norm — he is a zone killer. When in zone, he gets the ball. In a lot of those instances, we were in zone.”

Kelce pulled in his 1,000th career reception during the contest as well. Mahomes went 29 for 38 for 320 yards and three touchdowns, another exceptional performance against the Steelers.

“I’ve been trying to get him a touchdown the last few weeks,” Mahomes said. “I wanted to do it at Arrowhead. … Happy we got it done in the regular season. Now we can just play football. He’s done so much for this organization on and off the field. For him to have the career that he’s had has been special. I know at the end of the day he wants to win the ring more than anything. It’s awesome he can have that accomplishment.”
