The Pittsburgh Steelers would prefer to move forward with Justin Fields at quarterback for the 2025 season. One week before the start of free agency, the Steelers have not signed Fields to a contract.

What gives? Leverage. Fields and his representatives would like to get him to free agent market, where other interested teams like the New York Jets can bid on his services. The Steelers want to have Fields under contract before the start of the free agency period, so they can start signing players at other positions while knowing who their quarterback is and what their budget is.

But with just six days to go to the start of the contact period, are the Steelers running out of time?

Alan Saunders joined Chris Carter on the Locked On Steelers Podcast to discuss the quarterback situation, and when the Steelers should want to pivot to Russell Wilson if they aren’t able to sign Justin Fields.

The guys also talked about the free agent market at cornerback, defensive tackle and wide receiver and the running back class in the 2025 NFL Draft.
