The Pittsburgh Steelers will face a familiar face twice this season, as the Baltimore Ravens have traded for former Steelers receiver Diontae Johnson.

With the trade deadline looming, the NFL is expected to see a wave of last minute trades as teams look to make a second half push for the postseason. On Tuesday, https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1851324657258877013?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet”>Adam

Schefter dropped news of a big trade that will impact the Steelers. The Carolina Panthers traded former Johnson to the Ravens.

The move comes as no surprise for Johnson as he was expected to be traded by the deadline. However, this is a surprise the Ravens are the team to land the former Pro Bowl receiver.

Johnson spent his first five seasons with the Steelers after being selected in the 3rd round in 2019. His ability to create separation and yards-after-catch became an integral piece to the Steelers struggling passing game. However, he drew fire from fans for untimely drops and questionable field movement. Nonetheless, he was a steady receiver for Pittsburgh recording 391 receptions for 4363 yards and 25 touchdowns.

This past offseason, the Steelers elected to trade Johnson in exchange for Donte Jackson and late round pick swaps. Though Jackson has provided good return on investment, the Steelers have missed Johnson’s caliber in the receiver room. The Steelers were prohibited by re-acquiring by NFL trade rules.

It will be interesting to see how Johnson fits into the Ravens plans. There is no doubt, however, he will be playing alongside the best quarterback of his career since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement. There also will likely be a chip on Johnson’s shoulder on Nov. 17, when he makes his return to Pittsburgh as a Raven.
