Bart Scott Shares Story of When He Destroyed a Steelers Player
The Baltimore Ravens revealed another Untold Stories episode with former linebacker Bart Scott. In a previous edition, Scott reflected on his famous hit on Ben Roethlisberger in 2006. Roethlisberger revealed last summer that it was the hardest hit that he received in his 18-year NFL career.
Scott shared another Steelers-Ravens rivalry story. This time it featured a battle between Scott and former Steelers fullback Dan Kreider in Week 9 of the 2007 season.
The Steelers blew out the Ravens, 38-7, on Monday Night Football at Heinz Field, but Scott wasn’t going down without a fight.
“I was always searching for respect and validation,” Scott said. “They’re in a four-minute offense. It’s clear that we’re gonna lose this game. But we can lose the war, but we’re not gonna lose the battles.
“If there’s one thing I’m not gonna take, it’s disrespect. Especially from a dude with a neck roll. I mean, Dan Kreider, we had a whole conversation about what was about to occur. The play before the timeout, I hit Willie Parker … I’m like, ‘Listen Willie, this guy gonna get you killed. He sucks.”
Kreider overheard Scott’s remark, and the two argued the entire time during a TV timeout near the Steelers sideline.
“I said, listen man, I will knock your ass out,” Scott recalled. “(Kreider) said, ‘man, you won’t do nothing.'”
Mike Tomlin was tuned in to the confrontation. Scott said it was like he was watching a tennis match.
“Tomlin stopped and said, ‘you want him?’ He said, ‘heck yeah, I want him.’ Mike Tomlin with his hands crossed didn’t even bat an eye, said, ‘go get him.’ And Dan Kreider was all jacked up on Mountain Dew.”
The play didn’t turn out well for Kreider, as Scott blew him up in the hole.
“I think I was an electric car and I think he was maybe a deuce and a quarter, because he didn’t get out of the blocks too fast. Met him in the hole, and bow!” And I’m talking my talk,” Scott said.
“I told you this dude sucks. The problem was, he got up too fast … He got up fast, popped up, said ‘screw you,’ runs to the sidelines, gets to the numbers, collapses.”
The producer revealed to Scott that Kreider was out the next week with an injury due to the hit.
“The story grows! I had no idea,” Scott said while laughing. “Listen, I need to call Dan Kreider then and tell him to send me that neck roll because I broke it.”
