Even though Mike Tomlin did his best to dance around a media-led interrogation surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback controversy, you can reasonably read between the lines and arrive at a conclusion: Russell Wilson is the starting quarterback.

Even with that in the books, it opens up a pandora’s box of questions about where we go from here, mainly centered around how the coaching staff presumably came to this decision and where the team is going to go from here. There’s quite a bit to unpack and to be clear, this is a call that will define their season to an extent.

Those tough determinations are in the job criteria for head coaches, and a veteran leader such as Mike Tomlin undoubtedly understands the job description. In some ways this felt like a moment that we would always arrive at one way or another.
