Free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers was seen working out with new Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf over the weekend. However, he still has yet to sign with the team, growing the frustrations of many around the league.

Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is among those and did not hold back when talking about the situation on Tuesday.

“Aaron, let’s be honest, if you’re going to be throwing to DK Metcalf and telling everybody about it, you may as well just sign. Like what are we doing,” Roethlisberger said on his “Footbahlin’ with Ben Roethlisberger” podcast. “I really believe that he is going to be a Steeler. I’m saying it.”

It remains to be seen why Rodgers hasn’t signed anywhere yet, even though many believe it’s a “safe bet” he’s going to land in Pittsburgh.

Roethlisberger has an idea, though.

“Just my opinion, I think Aaron is secretly still holding out for Minnesota, which is why he hasn’t signed with the Steelers,” Roethlisberger said. “I just think he thinks that Minnesota is a more complete, closer team to win a Super Bowl, and he might not be wrong.”

If that’s true, the wait on Rodgers could go on for much longer. Despite reports saying that the Vikings were out on Rodgers, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said the door is still open for the four-time league MVP.

The Steelers seem to be okay with that, at least for now. President Art Rooney II said the team is willing to wait “not forever, but a little while longer.”

That deadline is likely the 2025 NFL Draft, which kicks off on April 24. Pittsburgh still has two vacancies in its quarterback room and a rookie will probably occupy one of those spots.

“I would think at some point, you got to be like, ‘Hey, you need to let us know before the draft,'” Roethlisberger said. “Because I think they’re going to draft a quarterback. It’s just a matter of how high they draft a quarterback.”
