Ben Roethlisberger Scores on QB Sneak for First Time Since 2018

PITTSBURGH — Steelers fans have been clamoring for some time to see Ben Roethlisberger utilize the quarterback sneak more to help in short yardage situations.

That noise became a roar in 2020 while the team struggled in short yardage. This season, they have been more productive in that area, but facing a 2nd and goal from the 1, offensive coordinator Matt Canada felt he needed a boost.

Canada dialed up not one but two quarterback sneaks with Roethlisberger after the first was stopped short.

“The two sneaks? It’s been a while,” Roethlisberger said. “They didn’t feel real good. My neck’s going to be a little sore for sure. But glad we could get in on the second one — any way we can help the team.”

Roethlisberger kept the ball after the touchdown, his first rushing score since 2018, but he said he didn’t have any real reason to keep it.

“I don’t have it,” he said. “I tried to offer it to one of the defensive guys (that was talking trash.)”
