The Pittsburgh Steelers will look to retool their quarterback room this offseason with just Skylar Thompson signed for the 2025 season. That, of course, has led to several quarterbacks already being linked to the Steelers.

One of those quarterbacks who has recently been tabbed as the Steelers potential 2025 starter is Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers’ 2024 campaign with the Jets was far from successful. New York finished the year at 5-12 and will unlikely want Rodgers back.

So should the Steelers want Rodgers after they had another unsuccessful season in which they were one-and-done in the playoffs once again?

Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t think so.

“Is Aaron going to play anymore, I mean there’s rumors of him coming to Pittsburgh,” Roethlisberger said on the latest episode of the “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger” podcast. “Which I don’t think it’s a good move for the Steelers. I don’t think that’s what you want. I don’t think you want a guy for like a one year Band-Aid just because if you think that you are just a quarterback away, then you go try and find a quarterback that you think can take you over the top.”

Even if the Steelers were a quarterback away, which they are not, it’s very questionable if Rodgers would be the piece they are missing.

The 41-year-old had one of the worst seasons of his 20-year NFL career as he threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interception. His 90.5 passer rating was the worst of his career in seasons he played in at least four games.

There’s no doubt Rodgers was once one of the best quarterbacks in the league as a four-time NFL MVP, 10-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, but that is no longer the case.

Rodgers could still opt to retire, shutting down any rumors about him joining Pittsburgh, but even if he doesn’t, it feels far from the right move for the Steelers.

“Listen, Aaron is going to go down as one of the best quarterbacks to every play the game,” Roethlisberger said. “He is a first ballot Hall of Famer, he is everything you want, but I don’t know that he fits here because you saw what happened. I mean Russ can move better than Aaron and Russ couldn’t get away from some sacks this year. I think if he came here, he would have to learn a new system again. He wouldn’t have anybody to throw the ball to.”
