Bengals Sign Former Steelers Offensive Lineman
Former Steelers offensive lineman Nate Gilliam landed with the Cincinnati Bengals for another season after they gave him a future deal following the end of their season. Gilliam joined Cincinnati last season after the Steelers released him and has spent the last two seasons with them, extending his tenure with the team.
Gilliam joined the Steelers’ practice squad in 2021 and returned for 2022. The Wake Forest alum worked primarily at guard in 2021, but the Steelers tried him at center during training camp, which did not go particularly well. Still, he continued on with the center path and has worked there with the Bengals.
Gilliam was released when the Steelers claimed center Ryan McCollum on waivers from the Detroit Lions. The team reworked their offensive line last season and Gilliam was part of the exodus from the room as Omar Khan shaped it in his vision. However, it seems that Gilliam has treaded water and found some ground.
Gilliam joined the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and re-signed with the team in 2021, but has never been elevated to the active roster. In his entire NFL career, he has still yet to be elevated and play in an NFL game, but can continue to stay on the practice squad due to the expanded practice squad rules that were created during the 2020 season.
